Do you remember the movement years ago called Gorilla Goodness, where people empowered themselves to go around committing Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty?
What if? Just for today …
We all lovingly and intentionally connected with another being, just for a moment. A friend, a family member or even a stranger?
There is so much loneliness in this world that we do not see. Often hidden behind smiles and the quick "I´m fine" response to those knee-jerk "how are yous" we toss out at the blink of an eye.
So, today, why not take a minute to really listen. To really see. To really care - even if it´s just for a moment.
Go ahead and share a little kindness. Offer a hug, a smile or do a bit of "drive-by loving", if you´d rather.
Kindness comes in all kinds of packages.
I´m sure you´ve got a few ideas of your own. Still, here are a few ideas I´ve come up with just in case you need a nudge to get you going:
- Why not call someone and tell them how you appreciate them, without any other agenda.
- Reach out and connect with a difficult relationship and propose that we start over and “Do it differently.”
- Purposely look for someone to let in front of you in traffic and then wave them in.
- Generously listen to someone, paying as close as you can to 100% attention, saying only, “Tell me more.”
- Tell a friend or loved one, “I love you.”
- Smile at a few strangers today and perhaps even say, “Hi.”
- Look at yourself in the mirror today and really see you and connect to you. Tell yourself: “Well done!” and give yourself a few reasons why while maintaining eye contact with your real self (not the critical one).
This world can always use more kindness in it. Do what you can. After all...
