Are you the average of the top five people you "hang with"? According to Jim Rohn, it´s the relationships that make the man...or, er, woman.
Let’s take a look at those five people you hang with most of the time:
Your Primary Relationship
Your partner either reflects or refracts the best in you.
Most of my clients have a lot to say about their primary relationship and, the bottom line is, if your primary relationship doesn’t bring out the best in you, your average is likely to decline.
Your Co-workers
Some co-workers are like sunshine and others are like acid rain.
Do you spend time around the person who always sees the best in others and gives everyone the benefit of the doubt?
Or do you spend secret sessions complaining about the problem du jour?
Know that your sunny co-workers brings your average up and those negative naysayers are bringing that average down.
Your Best Friends
Whether you’ve got one bestie or a posse, think about your closest friends.
Do they encourage you? Bring you chicken soup when you’ve got a bad cold?
Do they see the best in your primary relationship or find a constant string of flaws?
It’s important to know when the listen to negative feedback, right?
Your Family Relationships
Maybe you spend a lot of time with your mother, father, or siblings, or maybe you’re separated by miles or perspectives.
Do family members reflect the person you are today, or does Aunt Susie still remember you as an awkward teenager with braces?
Some of the worst injuries are inflicted by family members.
Your Boss
If you’re the boss at work, bravo!
How are your management skills?
Do you empower those working for you, or are you a micromanager?
If you’ve got a boss, do you like him or her?
Is the relationship pleasant and affirming or is it negative and destructive?
Take a moment to think about your relationships because they do affect the person you are!
